Overview: Complete site development for new bus maintenance facility for Edmonds School District including structural excavation, piling, CTB and site utilities.
Spotlight: The site had previously been graded with uncontrolled fill up to 40 feet deep.
Problem: The previously placed fill was fine grained, above optimum moisture and loose in nature as well as containing unsuitable materials that would not support building or vehicle loadings. Over excavation and replacement as well as deep soil improvements for the entire site would exceed budget restrictions. Since building loadings varied from vehicle loadings a treatment program was required that addressed individual loadings and varied site fill conditions.
Solution: Working with the Geotechnical Engineer, ground improvement techniques including auger cast piling, excavation and replacement, and deep cement treated base were employed to address specific soil conditions and loading parameters.
Results: Specific geotechnical loading requirements were achieved at an optimal cost.
