A 6,000 acre resort development in Rosyln, WA comprising more than 2,500 home sites and 3 championship golf courses.
Spotlight
Implementation of environmentally sensitive construction techniques accomplished within a very tight schedule window.
Problem
As part of the Phase III Tumble Creek Golf Course construction, irrigation lines were required to be installed from the water source in Phase I to the golf course irrigation lines within Phase III. This had to be accomplished through the extremely environmentally sensitive Cle Elum River corridor. The work involved the installation of 22,000 feet of pipe, the design build construction of a temporary crossing of the Cle Elum River and the installation of a 6” high lift diesel booster pump. The golf course had been recently hydroseeded and irrigation was being drawn from the Cle Elum River under a temporary permit that, due to Salmon migrations, expired September first. This required all work to be completed within 22 working days. The river crossing SEPA permit required that no construction take place within 20’ of the high water level at anytime.
Solution
To accomplish this a work plan was developed to provide for a clearing crew, an earth moving crew, and a pipe crew, to begin the work in different areas simultaneously so that there would not be any sequence delays. The schedule required that all pipe work be completed within the first three weeks to allow sufficient time to construct and tie into the river crossing, install the pump, and test the system. Half of the pipe installation had to be performed within a 30’ wide cleared area adjacent to the sensitive river corridor. A design began immediately to support, anchor and suspend the 10” diameter HDPE line more than 250 feet across the Cle Elum River.
Results
With only minimal clearing, and none within 200’ of the river corridor, the pipeline was constructed, the river crossing was designed and built, the pump was installed and the system was tested and delivering water by September 1.
